So having done lots of little outings with Crosbie, Percy and Florence the time had come for our first event at Stafford Horse Trials. Crosbie went on the Friday for his first ever event and was competing in the BE80. He behaved really well. I was slightly disappointed with his dressage of 40, he then jumped a nice sj round just picking up 4 faults and then flew round the cross country making it feel incredibly easy. Although the following day I discovered they had given him 20 penalties for a slight hesitation at the sunken road, which was very harsh as he had only had a little look but then went, he never stepped backwards, so very disappointed to discover that. The following day Percy and Florence went back for the Open BE90, I had dropped them down to this level to hopefully get a good first run of the season, having started there last year with not such great rounds because of the ground conditions and because they had got shoes on for the first time ever I wanted them to get the best experience possible. They were both on great form and absolutely flew round the event, despite the ground being a little sticky. Florence had a 25 dressage and double clear inside the time for 3rd place and Percy had 28 dressage and double clear also inside the time for 5th place. Absolutely delighted with them all for their first events of the season. Stafford's team of organisers and helpers had put on a couple of fantastic days of competition and were really unlucky to lose the last day due to the weather. Great friendly team and fab prizes 😊
